Film Processing and how it works ?

We process all our e6 and C41 ( colour negative) films on dip and dunk machines here at Genie Imaging. Our service is a fully controlled E6 and C41 process which we regularly measure and test. We use densitometers to check our processing plot and after 20 years of processing films for photographers in London - we think we have earned our credentials as a professional film processing laboratory.

How long does the film process service take?

We try to process the films on the day that we receive them and despatch them to you on the following day depending on our volumes .Our service time is as follows:

Day 3: We are ready to despatch by 4pm that day

Day 4: Royal Mail delivers back to you

We are not open on Saturday and Sunday.

It should be stressed that this is not a guaranteed service time and is dependant on the number of units we receive each day. For scanning of films you will need to allow between 1 or 2 extra days in house. Black and White film processing is a minimum two day in house service time.

This must be signed and enclosed with your films or we will be unable to proceed and this may delay your order.

Can I scan my films at the same time and what file size will they be?

We can scan your films at the time of processing and all our scanned films are balanced by a colour technician in lightroom. Our scans are approximately 18MB for 35mm film and 12Mb for 120 , 5x4 films are scanned to 25MB. All scans will easily be good enough to print to A3 and sometimes beyond. Colour films are cleaned by an infra red scan that reads the dust on the back of the film emulsion and then removes the blemishes. Black and white film is uncleaned ( not dustbusted) and will need to be dustbusted in an application like photoshop. All scans are then written to CD or DVD.

What is the benefit of using your scanners?

Because our scanners are carefully calibrated and high end - your scans will be of a really high quality. Also, if you are thinking of printing them at a later stage by uploading the files onto our website and ordering prints - they will be behind our colour loop and will print perfectly without any colour management.. We supply all scans on CD rom.
